Bad Design and No Training

When Chernobyl’s reactor exploded, it forever changed the way people looked at nuclear energy. However, it’s important to recognize that the disaster wasn’t some freak accident: as the TV series accurately depicts, it was caused by human error.
The first problem was the scheduling of an official test, conducted under incorrect conditions, by a night-shift crew who had not been trained in the procedure … with the safety systems turned off. Bad combination, much? On top of this calamity of errors, the Chernobyl nuclear reactor was built with a flawed design, for cost reasons. It was a disaster waiting to happen.
